I've recently completed an exhibition of my work in Worthing's Gallery 26 with the theme of female cultural depictions.

Revolution, Religion, Resuscitation

The theme of this exhibit is showing female allegory and personification in culture, society and historical context. The show is an interpretation in the form of three images that visualise the symbolic parts that the female image has played in our understanding of relating to specific areas.

Marianne, Maria, Annie explores how the feminine character shows relation to the signs of visualising an issue in poetic, artistic, spiritual and associative fashions. Three of those themes expressed in this instance are in revolutionary and nationalistic figures, religious icons and in first aid training.

This project is my own vision of characters derived from and inspired by Marianne (the state symbol of France and symbol of liberty, justice and reason), Mary the mother of God and maternal figure and finally of Resusci Annie, the likeness of a casualty used for helping to administer CPR.

Ambiguity represented by the use of their faces being obscured in some way is how I wish to show these women as part of universal female identification.

More Opportunities With Gallery 26

I have recently had the pleasure of being one of the winners of the Gallery 26 gift voucher competition with my wolf design as seen below being one of the chosen winning entries. I have also recently been made a trustee for this exciting non profit organisation that wishes to forcast the local talents of Worthing and Brighton and look forward to taking part in the contributions and descisions it Gallery 26 will have in the near future.

Gallery 26 Gift Voucher Competition

New Ideas

So with my Fabrica work now finished I have alot more time to set out new ideas for pieces and for work to submit to Gallery 26 once again. The animal pieces have proven popular so I am setting out doing some new work involving the symbolism behind animals and how they mean to humans relationship with them from the spritual, mythological and political. I also found an old picture I took of the cliffs at Durdle Door in Dorset and feel its time to use this some how. More will be posted when these ideas are finished.

Photographic Oportunities With Fabrica

As part of my work with Fabrica I was able to take opportunites to do photographic work with them in documenting some of their in house resident talks and artists lectures. In the two months that I worked there I was able to take part in documenting a talk by artist Jonathan Swain and his talk on Brightons 24 hour economy as part of his White Night project and as well as that I attended a very insightful talk by artist, and exhibitor of the Brighton Photo Biennial Lindsay Seers.

I am interested in Seers' avante garde approach to photography in the ways that she essentially uses her own body as a camera in methods like using the inside of her mouth as a makeshift pin hole camera. Here is a talk about some of her work as part of Channel 4's '3 Minute Wonder' series.
